COLLABORATION WITH CAPOEIRA LUANDA
PRESENTED AT IONA UNIVERSITY GALLERY

C

apoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art developed by enslaved Africans in the 16th century as a form of self-defense disguised as an acrobatic dance. Created in collaboration with Capoeira Luanda in New Rochelle, NY, the resulting imagery and video project underscore the exhibition’s meditation on continuity, cultural transmission, and the enduring power of embodied knowledge.

“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.”
